Dear Longford Primary School Families
Muffins with Mum
We love our Mums, Nans, Aunts and special people, and it was fabulous to see them at our Mother’s Day, Muffins with Mum breakfast. Families shared muffins, tea and coffee, as they chatted and laughed together. Thank you for taking the time to join us, we know it meant so much to our students.

Cross Country
Earlier this week, our Grade 3 to 6 students, showed grit and sportsmanship, during the Cross Country. It was so pleasing to see students supporting and encouraging each other, as they did their best. We thank families that came along to support our students, we appreciate your cheering and smiles. Some of these students have been chosen to run in the Northern Midlands Cross Country in a few weeks’ time, we wish them the best of luck and know they will represent our school with pride.

Upcoming Events
Keep a look out on our calendar; we have lots of important and exciting things coming up this term. Our staff are busy planning for our Winter Solstice on Thursday 19th June, so get those scarves and gloves ready. Parent teacher is also coming up in weeks 8 and 9, an important opportunity for teachers and families to come together and share student progress. Our Prep to Grade 2 students will have a visit from Ditto tomorrow, such a vital message about keeping safe and empowering them to speaking up. Readers Cup and Illuminate are coming up for Grade 5/6s, we wish them luck in both these opportunities.
Respect
As we continue to focus on the value of Respect, it is great to see our students inquire about the different ways we can show respect. Respect can be shown with words and actions, to people and places.
We wish Mrs Burnett all the best on her Hardie Fellowship in America for the remainder of the term, and welcome Mrs Copeland back late next week from long service leave. Myself, Mr Nobes, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Freeman are available to support families where needed, please contact the office.
Jodi Claxton
Acting Principal
Congratulations to students for receiving a
Respect Certificate of Merit
Tomorrow, Thursday 22nd, our Kinder to Grade 2 students will attend Bravehearts Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure show. More information about this important program can be found in the link below.
National Simultaneous Storytime

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the county. Today our school gathered to listen to Mrs Claxton read 'The Truck Cat'.
Some cats are house cats. Some are apartment cats. But Tinka is a truck cat. Tinka lives everywhere.
With his human, Yacoub, Tinka travels roads wide anad narrow, near and distant. But no matter where they go, home feels very far away. When Tinka anad Yacoub are unexpectedly seperated, they are determined to find their way back to each other - and, in doing so, might find more than they expected ...
On Friday, seventeen grade 5/6 students attended the Northern Midlands Hockey Gala Day at St Leonards along with eight other schools. Students participated in skill-building activities and games before we were matched against Cressy in a head-to-head match. Longford just came out on top at 1-0, with all students showing great skills and determination. If students enjoyed the day, or if any other grade 5/6 students are interested in playing Hockey, they may want to consider hockey in the Country Gold sports day in term 3.

Grade 3/4's have launched into a term of garden learning about water. From cloud spotting, to river making, flower icicles and fern fountains, we are getting inside the life of this precious, shiny, sticky molecule.

Breaking News
We are delighted to announce the school garden will be showcased in Longford Blooms this November. The garden will be open to Festival goers on Saturday (only). To share what is distinctive about Longford Primary we imagine having the garden buzzing with students! So families, please SAVE THE DATE - November 15th.
3D Printing
This term in Digital Technologies, graded 5/6 students are learning how to create 3D designs using website Tinkercad. These designs are printed using a FlashForge 3D printer, in the student's choice of colour. Here are some creations for the term so far.

Ozobots
Recently, grade 5/6 students started working with Ozobots, on loan from another school. These robots are programmed to follow a dark line, and perform 'tricks' such as spinning around when rolling over particular colour codes.

The cold weather can bring challenges with jackets and jumpers, please reach out to the office of you need support with providing a school jumper for your child. All students are expected to wear a school jumper once they are on school grounds.
If you need help with this, call the office, as we have a range of ways to support. Students will be asked to remove non school jumpers in the classroom and playground. Jackets and gloves are encouraged in these chilly times.
