Garden News
This term grade 1/2 students are map making. We search the garden for patterns and make maps from nature. Each pattern has an important message. Branching patterns tell us that things are moving, flowing or growing. We found the branching pattern in leaves, trees and the veins in our arms.

A small group of 3 /4 artists are working on a mural for the outdoor classroom. We thank Kira from Bunnings for donating the mural materials. The mural will have a circular blackboard at its centre. This is the story circle, and it is designed to showcase the current garden learning. Student artists are designing animal characters to surround the blackboard. These are local creatures who interact with us in the garden. Behind the animals there will be the Tasmanian rainforest greenery. With this artwork we want to communicate who we are as a community of living creatures sustained by the land, water and air of this place.
Over the weekend, volunteer gardeners were hard at work pruning the school orchard, weeding, and mounting bird boxes made by the 5 /6 students. Keep your eyes open for pardalotes as they discover these new tree havens! Thanks to all involved.
Tree Club
Tree Club members have completed a survey of the school’s environmental strengths and weaknesses. Thanks to those involved! Among their findings they discovered that we were good at saving water, but not with reducing litter. They have decided to focus on: Energy and Climate, Litter and Waterways and Fair Go, Global Citizenship.
To observe the connection between tree cover and climate, the club made a visit to the Kinder forest yesterday, measuring temperature and hearing how the kinder students use the forest. Kinders like finding sticks in the forest, watching the bird box, playing hide and seek and having fun.
