Dear Families
Welcome to our final newsletter for 2024. It has been a busy final few weeks at Longford Primary School. Last Wednesday we held our Presentation Assembly. It was lovely to have our school community together recognise our student achievements and acknowledge our Year 6 leavers. On Monday the Year 6s held their celebration dinner, which they enjoyed immensely. We have also celebrated the year with some excursions, P-2 students travelled to Riverbend Park and the Years 3-6 enjoyed a day out at the Aquatic Centre. During these events students have really demonstrated the values of Connection, Responsibility and Respect. All students should be commended on the ways they have shown growth throughout the year.
School Association & Volunteer Thank you

Congratulations to students for receiving a
Growth Certificate of Merit
We would like to thank the Longford Rotary Club for all that they do in our Longford community. Recently the School Association received a donation to be used for school events, such as the Carols. This week our Kindergarten had a visit from Rotarians to present each Kinder student with a book to take home. Rotary has supported our Kinder over a number of years with their 'Books for Life' program.
Thank you Rotary!
Thank you for donating to our local community Helping Hand. They were thrilled with the generosity from our families.
Look at our Science Talent Search winners! Our 1/2 students were presented with statewide awards recognising their curiosity and hard work. A special congratulations to Phoebe who won Best Creative Writing from Kindergarten to Grade 12! James, Frankie and Mia also received awards. We are proud of the learners you are.

What is your favourite thing about literacy?
I like closing my eyes and imagining what is happening in the story.
I like to read graphic novels; I like looking at the pictures. I like lots of fiction stories. I recently read ‘Wings of Fire’. When I was little, I would read Peppa Pig books with my parents
Tell us about this piece of work…
I got the idea because it was December and I love Christmas. Lyla and I decided to write Christmas stories. I made it rhyme because I like the sound of rhyming, it sounds like a song to me.
I am really happy with how it turned out. At first I thought it would be short, but it became really good. I would write a line then think of words that rhymed and make the next lines.
One jolly December, many years ago
Lived a pug named Jenny
Who had Christmas spirit to show
All the pugs in town loved Christmas too
But Jenny loved it most
It’s true
“Twenty days till my favourite day Christmas”, cried Jenny with joy
As Jenny made Christmas cookies she sang lots of songs
But something didn’t feel right,
Something was wrong
She put the cookies in the oven, then ran outside and saw
A great big accident
Everyone said “Awwwwwww”
“What’s going on” said Jenny all confused
“Someone wrecked the town Christmas tree
And people have been abused
Everyone tried to fix the tree, but it was too broken
People were crying
From those horrible words spoken
The horrible person who had done this had come back to town
He said “Why such sad faces,
Why such a frown?”
And Jenny said “You! You wrecked our tree”
And he said “Well I hate Christmas,
Obviously”
Jenny ran back inside
And grabbed the cookie tray
Then ran back out and was about to say…
“Would you like a cookie,
And if you do, you see
Maybe you could help us fix our special Christmas tree?”
“Well, I guess so” he said
I’ll give the cookie a try”
And then so he bit it and got a twinkle in his eye
“Do you like it?” said Jenny, hoping he’d say yes
“I love them” he said
“These cookies are the best”
“My name is Robbie and I will help you put up the tree”
Jenny smiled
And jumped up and down with glee
Everyone in town helped fix the tree
And they all re-decorate
Then Jenny said I’m hosting a Christmas party tomorrow at 9
Please don’t be late
In the morning Jenny woke up with a smile
She got out some old stockings
From an old Christmas pile
“These stockings will look great on that wall
I guess Christmas never got ruined
After all”
After a lot of baking, cooking and decorating things
Jenny finally finished
And the doorbell rings
“Why hello dear guests, please come in”
Said Jenny
With a very friendly grin
As she welcomed more guests, she waited for her new friend Robbie
She wanted him to feel at home
As it was his very first Christmas party, you see
Finally, Robbie arrived at Jenny’s place
He was very nervous though
His heart started to race
Jenny noticed he was here
And ran over to say
“Robbie, you’re here,
You can choose where to sit, you may”
When Jenny left the room to get the Christmas cake
All the party guests
Had a secret plan to make
When Jenny came back
She couldn’t see all the guests
She could only see Robbie (hoping it would go it’s best)
“Where is everyone?”, said Jenny
“Did they disappear”
Then everyone popped up, about to sing their little cheer…
“Thank you Jenny” they chanted, “thank you so much
You are so awesome and
We love your Christmas touch”
Jenny happy-cried her little heart out
And wiped her eye
“That was so sweet” said Jenny with a happy sigh
“We should call you Christmas pug”,
said a guest who was a very jolly pug
“And we could cheer for you and each give you a hug”
“Three cheers for Christmas Pug
Hooray, hooray, hooray”
And that’s the end of the story on a very jolly day
Garden Market - The Place To Be
Last Thursday garden students ran a market in the new outdoor classroom. They sold dinosaur and fairy gardens, banana magic, seedlings, popcorn and Longford tang. There were also clothes and books to swap. The afternoon was a raging success with $682 made, covering costs and drawing a modest profit to return to future garden ventures. Well done to students, and Megs for co-ordinating!
Fowl Friends - By The 2 Dozen
All 24 Fowl Friends of 2024 celebrated their efforts in caring for the school flock yesterday with Fowl Trivia and by consuming an egg rich chocolate cake. A massive thank you to these students.
Save The Trees Club - Planting Day
The Tree Club at Longford Primary is a student run initiative where students connect and care for trees. Adult gardeners at school invited them into a day of partnership and tree planting last week. Together they planted three new trees in the infant playground, played games and celebrated school trees. The students leading this group are an inspiration and I look forward to seeing what they will do in 2025.
Stomp Rockets
This week, Gr 3-6 classes were rocket scientists. We made paper rockets that needed to be air-tight at the top. Our launchers consisted of piping and a plastic soft-drink container to stomp the air into our rockets. Did fins and a nose cone help to control our rockets? Did weight at the head of our rocket help stability? Some notable mentions of almost 'touching space' were Layla, Ryleigh and Axle.
