Satisfaction Survey Information
We are excited to share the results of our recent family satisfaction survey. This year, we saw a record number of families participate. Overall, the feedback was very positive: 93% of families reported that staff at our school expect their child to do their best, and 98% agreed that they feel comfortable discussing concerns with their child’s teacher.
As a school, we are always striving to improve and strengthen our engagement with families. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with me to discuss them. Alternatively, you are always welcome to attend our school association meetings, which are held twice each term.
Upcoming Events
As we approach the end of the year, there are many exciting events to look forward to!
- Infant Fun Day: This Thursday, we are hosting a fun-filled event for students in Prep-2. The event will provide students across the Northern Midlands with an opportunity to connect and enjoy physical activities in a lively and engaging setting.
- Dance Fever: Next week, some of our Year 5-6 students will participate in Dance Fever. After working hard on their performance since last term, they will showcase their talent in front of a large audience on Thursday evening.
- Annual Carols Event: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 3rd, when we will hold our much-loved carols event.
- Presentation Assembly: On Wednesday December 11th, we will celebrate student achievements with our Presentation Assembly.
We look forward to seeing families at these upcoming events!
Family Volunteers
We are eager to expand our family volunteer group and would love your support. If you or a family member can spare some time to help out at school events, please consider joining us.
We are currently seeking volunteers for this Thursday’s Infant Fun Day. If you’re available to assist, please contact the school office. Your support makes a significant difference!
Playground Use Outside of School Hours
We would like to remind families that any students using the playground outside of school hours must be accompanied by an adult for supervision. If you notice unaccompanied children on school grounds during these times, please let the school know.
2025 Staffing Updates
Staffing is still currently being finalised in consultation with HR, however I can provide some updates for 2025.
As part of the Flexible Teaching Pool process Mrs Renée Oates will be moving to Westbury Primary School next year. Mrs Oates has been an important part of the Longford team and I know staff, students and families will miss her. We wish Mrs Oates all the best with the next chapter in her career.
In 2025 we will welcome two new teachers to our primary team. Mrs Nicki Gleeson and Mrs Katherine Dent. Both Mrs Gleeson and Mrs Dent bring a wealth of teaching experience and knowledge and we look forward to having them as part of our school.
In partnership

Congratulations to students for receiving a
Growth Certificate of Merit this week
Thank you to Deb, Jan and Pat from the Longford Garden Club for spending time with our students to create amazing pieces to enter in the Longford Spring Flower Show last weekend. They looked magnificent. Well done to all the entries and congratulations to the prize winners: Percy, Amelia, Ruby, Jude, Kamryn and Harley.
Longford are excited to be able to host the 2024 Infant Fun Day on Thursday 21st November. Schools participating in the Fun Day are Longford, Cressy, Perth, Evandale and Campbell Town. This year we are planning on running multiple activities for our P-2 students. The Fun Day will be at the Longford football ground and not at the school. Children will rotate around the inside of the oval while our famillies are welcome to watch on the outside of the fence.

What is your favourite thing about literacy?
I like that I can read better now than at the beginning of the year. I have been reading a lot. I go to Reading Club and I read at home. I try really hard in class and listen to Mrs Berry.
I like writing because I can now write in sentences. I like to write stories about animals. My favourite animal to put in a story is a koala. I’d like to write a story about a koala. I would call it Luna.
Tell us about this piece of work…
This writing is about our excursion walking around Longford. We saw stained glass windows in the church and we saw the cemetery. Mrs Berry asked us to write about our excursion. I liked writing about what we had done. The picture I drew is at the church. I am proud to be a Literacy Legend.
What is your favourite thing about literacy?
I like writing to create and make up my own stories in my head. I like to write stories about fighting and conflict. These are also the type of stories I like to read. One of the books I like is “Skeleton Key”. It has fighting in it. It’s about a boy, Alex Rider who is an orphan turned teen superspy who's saving the world one mission at a time. I read the graphic novel, which I prefer. I am looking for other books in the series to read.
Tell us about this piece of work…
Mrs Oates showed us 4 pictures and asked us to create a story about one of them. The picture I chose had a person hanging off a cliff. The story about this picture immediately came to me and it was easy to write. What I like about this story, is that it is a starting point for me. I have a plan to write the next part…I left it on a cliff hanger (literally). I also drew a copy of the picture as the background of the page.

What is your favourite thing about literacy?
I like reading because every book has its own personality. There might be a book that might have a bird and another book has a koala in it. I like that they are different. I really like to read about animals.
I like writing because I can make up my own stories but I also like putting some real things in them.
Tell us about this piece of work…
I wrote these books because I was doing some science research about the masked owl and I decided I wanted to write a book about one. I got the idea for the story because masked owls need to find food and thier food is less and less. I wanted to add information. I wanted people to learn about owls when they read it.
I wrote the second one because I hadn’t finished the story in the first one.
I have written another one. I might include the two owls finding food and fighting the other animals off to save their owlets.
Bindary Code
5/6s are learning about Digital data representation, and how computers store data as binary, 0s and 1s. We wrote our names as binary by shading boxes for '1' (on) and another colour or blank for '0' (off). Each sequence of 'bytes' makes one letter of the alphabet. We turned these into bracelets or bookmarks. Try out your own binary from any text at Binary to Text Translator
Jumping Droids
5/6 classes recently got to try our 'Buzz' Parrot jumping drones (droids). These are controlled by an iPad app, and because each droid has a built in camera, the operator can view around corners and under tables. The droids also have a Jump feature, launching up to a metre or so high, much to the delight of our students.
Wool Cat Jumper Weaving
Our preps recently created Cat jumpers from wool and other materials. We developed our fine motor skills, and decorated with wobbly eyes and markers. Here are some of our designs.
A reminder that school hours are from 8:30am-2:50pm. This is when the school has duty of care for students. We encourage our families to use our playground and oval after school and on weekends, however we need to ensure that children are safe and school property is respected. If children are on site after school hours they must be with an adult (parent or guardian). Children who are not accompanied by an adult will be asked to leave school grounds. If you have any questions regarding children being on school grounds out of hours, please contact the school.
