Dear Families
Welcome to Term 2! We have had a busy and exciting start to the term. It has been wonderful to see students reconnecting with friends and focused on their learning over the past week.
Agfest
Students in Year 3-6 went on an excursion to Agfest. Students enjoyed seeing the different displays, animals and farm equipment. Behaviour was excellent on the day and the students should feel proud about how they represented their school. Thank you to our parent volunteers we really appreciated you joining us on the day, to support the excursion.
Term 2 Garden Program
This term students in Year 3/4 will have the opportunity to work with Megs as part of our school garden program. Students will be learning about the environment through the theme of Fire and Fungi. The program will link to Science, HASS and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories & Cultures.
Mother’s Day Event
On Thursday morning we will be hosting an event for Mother’s Day from 8:15 in the GP room followed by an opportunity to visit your child’s classroom. Please see details in the newsletter. We look forward to seeing you at school on Thursday.
Respect
We will continue to focus on Respect this term. Students will be engaging in some workshops and lessons around respect. We are also offering some different activities for students to do during their break times including, library, board games, basketball, P-2 soccer and sports with Mr Ellis. This will provide opportunities for students to build their friendship network and try some new activities.
Congratulations to students for receiving a Certificate of Merit this week.
School Attendance Consultation
Share your thoughts on school attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.
Grades 3-6 enjoyed their excursion to Agfest last Thursday.
A huge thank you goes to 'TasFarmers' for funding our transport costs to Agfest!
3D Printing
Grade 3-4 students are finalising their 3D prints, and the grade 5-6 students are about to begin designing their creations on Tinkercad. Students are encouraged to design a unique keyring or small object that is useful or can help them at school or home. We have some new colours that students can use for their printing, including red and green. Seen here are some recent creations by our 3-4 students.
Scratch Jr
Whilst Grade 5-6 students are exploring how to create AI-generated images using Microsoft Copilot, Grade 1-2 students are learning how to use Scratch Jr. We can add characters and give drag-and-drop commands to control what our characters do, including movement, speech bubbles with our own text, rotation, and changing of the background picture to create different scenes. This experience is a pre-cursor for when students start using the main Scratch website in grades 3 and 4. Students have enjoyed the ability to change the design of their characters, including colouring and drawing with the Edit/Design tools.
Brixhibition All Schools Competition
Did you visit Brixhibition during the holidays?
Congratulations to Theo who represented Longford Primary in the Building all-schools competition.

Congratulations to Elliott who represented Longford Primary in the Drawing Design all-schools competition.
Seen here is one of the members of the Brick Enthusiasts Tasmania’s creation based on Eliott’s drawing, which we think is quite impressive.
