Dear Families, Students and Friends,
I take this opportunity to acknowledge the recent passing of Mrs Katherine Moore after her long and courageous battle with MND.
Katherine was a dedicated educator at Longford Primary School for 26 years, retiring in 2020. Katherine will be forever remembered as a creative, bubbly, strong and committed teacher who loved her job, her colleagues, children and families. We hold many memories of an incredibly talented teacher and a special friend to many.
Our deepest condolences go to Katherine's husband and children, Luke, Lachie and Sarah and all who have known and loved her.
Our school will continue to prioritise our fundraising efforts for MND research in 2023. If you can, please consider contributing to : http://hub.fightmnd.org.au/for-Katherine
Congratulations to our Grade 6 Leavers of 2022

Some Early Information 2023
Launching into Learning 2023

Office hours for book collection and uniform sales
- Wednesday the 1st and Thursday the 2nd of February – 9am-12:30pm.
Last Day of Term
Today we celebrate our last day together for the 2022 school year. School concludes at 2:50pm following a ceremony of farewell and ‘bell ringing’ by our Grade 6 leaving students. Families are invited to watch our students as they leave our school through a guard of honour at the front entrance – a chance to say goodbye to a special chapter and welcome to new beginnings.
All students (P-6) will be on the front lawn with their bags and can be collected from their class group at the end of the day.
Students (P-6) will return to school on Wednesday the 8th of February 2023. Please note that our Kindergarten students have a staggered start to the school year and this information is contained in Kindergarten information packs.
Finally, as we finish the year together, I take a moment to consider and reflect on the tragedy of Hillcrest Primary School, December 2021. May our children lost, rest in rainbows and those affected find their peace.
May your holiday break together bring you opportunity to hold your family close and show them how much you love them.
Merry Christmas
Carolyn

THANK YOU LONGFORD ROTARY CLUB
All Kindergarten students were fortunate to have a visit from members of Longford Rotary last week. Each student was presented with a quality book to take home and spent time enjoying reading with the Rotarians.
THANK YOU JAKOB LEFEVRE
Longford Primary would like to extend a thank you to Jakob Lefevre Stonemasonry & Monumental for their kind donation of pavers for the Grade 5/6 belonging space.
In 2023, Longford Primary will be introducing parent access to Canvas – our school’s Learning Management System as a replacement for Class Dojo.
To take advantage of the platform’s capacity to also share information between home and school, we will be using Canvas Parent to enhance the way our school communicates with families about the learning progress of their children. Canvas Parent will enable families to contact their child’s teacher/s, keep up to date with the learning occurring in classrooms and receive announcements and reminders.
Supporting information on how to access and log in to Canvas Parent can be accessed below.
- Access Canvas Parent at: https://canvasobserver.education.tas.gov.au/
- How to log in to Canvas as a parent
- Other support documentation can be found here: https://www.education.tas.gov.au/canvas-parent/
It is important to note that accounts are created using the email we have listed with parent information in our student enrolment system. If you are unable to log-in to Canvas please refer to the Canvas Parent FAQ. We will work with families over the next few weeks to review and update parent/carer email information where required.
We look forward to starting this journey and strengthening our connection with our parent community.
