Dear Families, Students and Friends,
We are enjoying some warmer days and longer afternoons as winter draws to an end. Our grounds and gardens look and smell incredible. The sunny days (after some chilly starts) are making everyone feel a little lighter and brighter.
Mrs Jen Hayes has been appointed as our Early Years AST for the remainder of the year. Mrs Hayes comes to us from Youngtown Primary School and will be joining us from Monday the 30th of August. Mrs Hayes will be working in our school on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays. Mrs Hayes is a highly experienced Early Years Teacher and Leader and we are excited to have her joining our LPS team.
2021 School Satisfaction Survey
Each year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys in Tasmanian Government schools, to gain feedback on what you think our schools do well and where you think we may improve.
We encourage you to complete the survey about Longford Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision making.
You can complete the online survey at any time until Friday 17th September 2021.
Survey link: https://ncv.microsoft.com/kOVissLHZK
All responses are anonymous and confidential with the survey carried out on a secure website.
Feedback is only accessible to the school principal and teachers and relevant Department of Education staff, in online summary report formats with no individuals or families identifiable.
For any assistance please contact Education Performance and Review by emailing: schoolsurveys@education.tas.gov.au.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Attention Families of student in Grades 4-6
The wellbeing of our students is important to us. To get an understanding of how students across Tasmania feel about their own wellbeing, students in Years 4-6 at Longford Primary will be taking part in a wellbeing survey.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
The details for the survey are:
When and Who: Wednesday 25th Grade 4 and Thursday 26th Grade 5/6.
What do I need to do: You and your child do not need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4-6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact Jen Copeland.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.

CRAZY HAIR DAY
To welcome in Spring, the SRC would like to invite students to participate in a Crazy Hair day on Tuesday the 31st of August. Students are asked to bring a gold coin to help us raise funds to upgrade our Prep playground.
Please note, this is not a free dress day and students are to be in uniform.
Thank you to Bethany and Leith for giving up their time to cook and serve soup last week for lunch. The recent hot lunches - fried rice, chicken burger and soup - have raised a profit of $843 towards our fundraising to upgrade our Prep playground. WELL DONE!
Order forms for recess salted popcorn have been sent home this week. Please return your orders by 9am Friday. A hot dog lunch is planned for Tuesday 14th September (order forms will be sent home at a later date). Thank you once again to Bethany and Leith for organising these treats for our students!
Families would have received information for the Kiddies Food Kutter fundraiser (see attached). Please return your order to the school office by Tuesday 31st August.
Following from the fair survey last term it was decided to hold a Twilight Market on Friday 19th November. This will incorporate food stalls and any other stalls showing what is on offer. Leith and Bethany will be holding a committee meeting with those that have shown interest in being involved. If you would like to be a part of this and have not already made contact with us please leave your name with the school office.
Our next School Association meeting will be held Tuesday 7th September at 9:15am in the board room. Please feel welcome to come along.
The Plot - Chickens....
The new school orchard has been planted! Well done to the 32 students who planted trees. It was great to have Liz Harris and Steve Cloudsdale, from Rotary, assist. Thanks goes to Mr Roberts for digging holes, cutting wire and getting tree supports in place. Thanks also to Allan's Garden Centre for supplying trees and Woolworths for funding the project.
In the orchard you will find apples, pears, plums, apricots, nectarines, figs, quinces and peaches. Ruby-Rose planted a Satsuma Plum, Owen a Redhaven Peach and Dallas a Nashi Pear. This could be a good place for reading 'Oi Frog' and 'Each Peach Pear Plum' in future book weeks.

Last week Prep-Crawford/Hardman's class ventured into the garden to pick daffodils for the Longford Rotary Community Shop.

Book Week is an exciting event in our calendar this year as we strive to improve reading engagement school wide. This week we celebrate all things books!
On Monday Mrs Morrison read her favourite picture. We have a guest reader each day in the library.
Our photo display in the library window shows our staff as readers. Take a look at their favourite books from their childhood. In the library window you will also find photos of all the children who have completed 100 Nights of Reading.
Your child has been given a Book Week Challenge to complete at home over the next two weeks. Once it is complete return to your class teacher to go into the draw for a book prize.

The Hub is a flexible space in our school that is accessed by many students throughout the day. Students access the Hub for learning, small group sessions and to regulate. It is also a popular place to play at lunchtime. The following photos show students engaged in learning and play.

On Monday the 16th of August all the 3/4s went to Kings Meadows High School for TASTER Day! We participated in some different classes while we were there. We attended a Library lesson, we made mini pizza in the cooking room and we learnt about Chromatography in the Science lesson. We played on their basketball court and on their climbing equipment at lunch time. We enjoyed the experience at Kings Meadows High School and it gave us a taste what high school might be like. Thank you to our teachers Mr Payne, Miss Harvey, Miss Kearns and Mrs Morrison for helping us on the day.

Jhett, Jordan, Elizabeth and Annabella from Grade 6 were involved in Write for Kings and had a wonderful time writing creatively!
Dad's Night / Father's Day Breakfast
Dad's Night
We are excited to once again be able to host our ‘Celebration of Learning’ with our Dads/Granddads/Uncles and significant others on Thursday the 2nd of September from 5:00-6:30pm. Dad’s Night is a valued tradition at Longford Primary School, it allows us to share some of our learning and class activities with you all. Dad’s Night is open to all families of our learning community, from LiL – Grade 6. Covid advice may restrict us from hosting the event in a traditional way, but the event will be a wonderful opportunity to connect and we encourage and welcome your attendance. Sausages can be purchased, with all monies raised supporting our Prep playground upgrade.
Father’s Day Breakfast
On Friday the 3rd of September at 8:20am, our Breakfast Club volunteers will be hosting a special breakfast for dads, granddads or a significant adult. Please RSVP if you are attending breakfast by Monday 30th August.
