Dear Families, Students and Friends,
With the addition of our new footy goal posts, we have seen lots of students enjoying new opportunities to try something new during break times. Mrs Biffin has been supporting students to improve their ‘kicking for goal’ skills and talking about how we use our new equipment safely.
As the weather continues to warm up, we are reminding students to stay hydrated and drink lots of water throughout the day.
Behaviour Matrix Video Launch
We are so proud to launch our Behaviour Matrix video. Our Support and Wellbeing team have worked incredibly hard on our Behaviour Matrix this year and our video was launched with the students last week. We look forward to having families back on site in the future so we can officially celebrate the successful work of this team.
We hope you enjoy watching the video with your family and welcome your comments and feedback.
2021 Planning
Planning for next year is now well underway. I really appreciate all of the parent support and feedback that has helped us progress our planning for 2021. We have now closed the window for parent meetings in regard to 2021 and we look forward to sharing future plans with you over coming weeks.
Staffing Update
Congratulations to Mr Nathan Guy who has recently won a new position elsewhere from 2021. We will celebrate Mr Guy’s incredible contribution to Longford Primary School at the end of the year and wish him all the very best for the future.
COVID 19 Update
Thank you to the incredible Longford Learning Community for continuing to follow all of the health and safety guidelines we have in place as a result of Coivd19. Just as a reminder:
- If you are in the school beyond drop off / pick up, it is necessary to sign in at the office and complete a screening form. Please carry your RWVP card details with you when visiting the school.
- We are still unable to have groups congregate together at pick up times. We ask that families come in and out as quickly as possible.
- The White Zone in William street is still available as a safe drop off point each morning so families do not have to park and come into school.
- Students who have flu, cold like or hay fever symptoms need to remain away from school and seek medical advice.
- Strict cleaning and hygiene practices and processes remain in place across the school.
Kindergarten 2021
We look forward to welcoming all of our 2021 Kinder students and families to our Kinder Connect Evening on Monday the 23rd of November, 5:00-6:00pm. This event will be hosted at the Kindergarten building on Burghley Street. The event is a time to share information about a child’s first year of schooling, as well as an opportunity for families to ask any questions they may have. A number of school staff will be in attendance to support families to feel as comfortable as possible about their child’s entry to Kindergarten. Covid Screening forms will need to be completed by those in attendance, so please allow a few extra minutes for this to happen on arrival at the Kindergarten building. Please remember that day preference letters and enrolment forms are now due.
Infant Fun Day
On Thursday 19th November LPS will host the annual Infant Fun Day. This is an event where Prep-Grade 2 students from Longford, Evandale, Perth, Cressy and Campbell Town come together for activity and fun. The event will run from 10:00am till 1:00pm. Students should wear their school PE gear. As the forecast is for a very sunny day, please ensure your child has their school hat to wear. Teachers will support students to regularly apply sunscreen throughout the day.
Unfortunately, this year families are unable to attend as spectators, however we will post plenty of photos to the school Facebook page and in the next newsletter.
Longford Garden Club Show
Thank you to Mrs Scott, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Bayles from the Longford Garden Club for supporting our children to be part of the Show.
Congratulations to the prize winners from the Show: Ashley, Gracie, Ashlyn Q and Logan.
Getting to School Safely
Please remain vigilant in our school zones and adhere to the 40km speed limit. Students are again reminded to always use the crossings and be extra vigilant when riding bikes/scooters to and from school.

Last Wednesday we commemorated Remembrance Day. Our senior members of the SRC talked about the significance of the day and of wearing a poppy. Every student was respectfully silent for one minute and then students each placed a knitted poppy donated by the RSL in our garden beds. Thank you to all that purchased a poppy and wore it with pride.
As we are still unable to hold assemblies at school, we would like to share some Learning Celebrations with you.
Each newsletter for the remainder of the year, classes will share learning that has been occurring in their classrooms.
This newsletter we celebrate the learning in Kindergarten, Prep/1 Crawford/Viney, Prep/1 Kearns and 5/6 Payne.
Kindergarten
Our school nurse Chanelle, visited kinder (twice) to talk about what we might do in an emergency, what might happen to us, that is, you may have your pulse read or a doctor/nurse may listen to your heartbeat or have an xray/scan taken.
Kinders had the opportunities to apply bandages to a toy, use an asthma puffer on a toy, take temperatures and dial 000 to practice the words they might say to an emergency officer.
As you can see from the photos, the kindergarten students enjoyed all the activities. The students listened carefully and were seen to be role playing many of the activities several days later with each other and kindergarten toys.
Prep/1 Kearns
In Prep/1 Kearns we have been looking at the learning asset “We are thinkers”. We brainstormed how we are thinkers in the classroom and in the playground. This display is on the wall in the classroom to remind us of how we are thinkers.
