Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
I am incredibly proud of the Longford Primary School Learning Community; we have had so many wonderful reasons to celebrate and be thankful. This term has brought many moments of happiness and joy, coupled with some sadness and reasons for us to come together to support one another. Our long standing teacher and friend, Mrs Katherine Moore was diagnosed with MND earlier this term; in support of her, we have committed to raising $1500 for MND research before the end of the year. Mrs Jemma Duncan showed great COURAGE this week and ‘raffled’ off the cutting of her very long hair to support our MND cause. Miss Emma Reader generously donated her time to support this fundraising effort also. Thank you to every student and family member for your very generous donations toward MND so far – we have now raised $727-00.
Mrs Duncan was also able to donate her hair to Sustainable Salons where wigs are made for those suffering medically induced hair-loss conditions – I applaud Mrs Duncan’s commitment, effort and incredibly generous spirit. We continue to show that every member of the Longford Primary School Learning Community truly lives by our School Values.
Footy Colours Day
We will hold another MND fundraiser this Friday. We invite all students to dress in their footy/sporting colours and bring a gold coin donation. All monies raised will go toward our MND fundraiser, with the aim of raising $1000-00 before the end of Term 3.
Values Champions
I proudly hosted the Term 3 Principal Morning Tea earlier this week. Congratulations to all of our ASPIRATIONAL learners that were nominated to attend this terms morning tea. It was a pleasure to host the morning tea and speak with you all about the attributes that contribute to ASPIRATIONAL leadership and learning. Well done to all of our incredible ASPIRATIONAL Values Champions!
Mermaids VS Pirates School Production
What a fantastic production put on by Mrs Sandra Seen, 4/5 Farran/Duncan and 3 Owen! The music, acting, humour and fun was evident throughout the final performances shared with audiences on Monday. Congratulations, I along with all audience members enjoyed every moment!
Country Gold Superstars
To all who represented our school with such pride at the Country Gold championships – the feedback on your effort, courage and respectful behaviour is to be applauded; well done to all involved! A particular shout out to Mr Chris Tantari for his organisation and management of the Country Gold soccer events. Congratulations to Ahlia on being nominated as the 'All Star’ Goalie for Soccer – tremendous effort!
Great Australian Cross Country Challenge
Alice represented Longford Primary and entered the Great Australian Cross Country Challenge after it was in the school newsletter in May. Alice placed 8th in her age group and gender and was then encouraged to run in the 'Finals Weekend' on Saturday the 5th September. Alice ran a slightly faster time and finished in 4th place. Congratulations Alice!
Community Care Project - Helping Hand Donations
Thank you to the SRC for supporting this Community Care Project. The donations from our school community have been overwhelming; another show of our incredibly generous and giving spirit. Thank you to all who donated to this very worthy cause.
Happy Holidays
As we come to the end of Term 3, I wish to again say a very big congratulations and thank you to all who continue to make our school such a wonderfully kind, thoughtful, considerate and safe place to learn, work and play. I continue to be amazed and in awe of the incredible place that is Longford Primary School. Have a wonderful, safe and restful break with your families. I look forward to welcoming you all back to the busy end of the school year – Term 4. Hopefully the sun will be shining for our return to school on Monday 12th of October, so please remember to pop hats in bags ready for the new term!

MND Hair CHOP
The SRC would like to thank all that bought a ticket to cut Mrs Duncan’s hair. Six lucky students, one staff member and Mrs Duncan’s daughter all had the privilege of giving a lock the chop. We raised $120 and Mrs Duncan will also donate her hair. Thanks to Emma Reader from Hampton Hair for assisting us and helping make the day special.
Helping Hand Community Care Project
Yesterday an aspirational surprise awaited our students. They braved the weather to read aspirational quotes and complete writing based on this provocation. Each person thought about what they aspire to be and how they will reach their goal. What amazing aspirations they have. Thanks to the Longford Little Athletics Club for lending us the podium.
KMHS Taster Day - Grades 3, 4 and 5 Students
A reminder that Grade 3-5 students will be visiting King Meadows High School on Thursday. The bus will leave at 9:00am and return before the end of the day. Students will need to bring lunch and a drink as the canteen is not available to them on the day.
Friday 25th September will be Footy Colours Day to raise money for MND. Please bring along a gold coin donation and wear the colours of your favourite footy or sporting team. Mr Tantari will run a goal kick competition at lunch time on this day. Help raise money for this great cause!
On Friday a group of students visited Kindergarten with Miss Doran and Cathy Cloudsdale to discuss the tree planting that will occur behind the Kindergarten building. Students sat with their Kinder friends and discussed what they would like to see in the space. They also read cards about the types of trees being planted. On Friday the group will work to plant 150 trees for National Schools Tree Planting Day, generously donated by Sustainable Timber Tasmania. Thank you to Cathy for her ongoing support of this project and Sustainable Timber Tasmania.
Unfortunately parents will be unable to attend the parade this year but we will share all of our celebration events through photos on our Facebook page throughout the week.
