Dear Parents and Carers,
With COVID-19 restrictions in our State starting to lift, I hope you and your family are finding some level of ‘normal’ again in your lives. We are enjoying having students back in classrooms and appreciate the ease in which they have transitioned back into routines from the beginning of the school year. I am proud of how adaptable, versatile and resilient our students have been over the last few weeks as they adjust to the changes in our school environment. Thank you to all families that have supported the school and our school community during the many challenges we have faced this Term 2.
A very special thank you to Longford Rotary Club who will continue to support our school community with generous soup for the remainder of Term 2; we are sincerely grateful for their ongoing support and generosity. All families have now received a Banjo's bread voucher, which was also provided by Longford Rotary Club.
We are putting together a thanks to Rotary. If you would like to add a personal thanks please send this to the office.
Important Updates
- Thank you to all families for your support with our ‘drop and go’ and ‘collect and go’ procedures over recent weeks. Our designated Drop and Collect Zones will stay in place for the remainder of Term 2. From next week however we will return to normal collection times. Staggered finish times will stop as of Friday the 19th of June. From Monday the 22nd of June, school finish times will go back to 2:50pm for Prep-Grade 6 students and 2:45pm for Kindergarten students.
- Please note that parents/guardians are still unable to enter school grounds. If you do need to access the school, please only enter via the school office front door.
- As a school hand hygiene still remains a priority, I have spoken to some families where children are experiencing sore hands from washing and hand sanitising. If you know your children are experiencing problems please get them to bring a product from home that does not react to their skin. We are still mandated to keep regular hand washing and sanitising processes in place.
- We anticipate Canteen will be able to start again at the beginning of Term 3.
Reporting to Parents
The Education Department has advised that teachers from Prep–Year 6 will be required to communicate to parents about where students are currently at for English and Maths and what the next steps in their learning will be in these areas. There will also be a short comment on student wellbeing in relation to how your child has returned to school. Our school will do this via a short summary report, which will go home to families on Friday 3rd of July. As our Kindergarten students have not been at school for very many days, they will receive a phone call with updates from Mrs Holt over the coming weeks in lieu of a written report.
Bike Safety
We are very concerned that some students riding to and from school are not following road safety guidelines. In recent weeks we have had reports of minor car/ bike accidents and other bike related injuries. Please make it a priority to speak to your child if they are riding their bike about ‘road awareness’ ‘road safety’ and ensuring bikes are safe and helmets are worn at all times.
2021 Kindergarten Enrolments
We are excited that it almost time for 2021 enrolments to Kinder!
If your child is turning 5 in 2021 they are eligible to start Kindergarten next year. We hope that Launching into Learning Sessions can resume early in Term 3 and enrolment forms can be collected from these sessions. Alternative, an enrolment form can be collected in Term 3 from the School Office. In preparation of enrolment please start to gather the following evidence:
- The students identity (Birth Certificate or Passport – original or certified copy)
- The identity of the enrolling parent / guardian – i.e. Drivers Licence
- The students residential address – ie utility account
- Immunisation records
Student Behaviour
This week, I have spoken with all students about our high expectations in regard to behaviour when at school. Students were reminded of our non-negotiables and our clear processes to follow if students choose not to follow school rules. I also informed students that we have zero tolerance for students that are physical towards other students. If a student deliberately hurts another person then a parent call will be made immediately, and we will ask that the student be taken home. All staff are focused on supporting students to ensure our school is a safe and kind place to work and play. We thank you for your continued support with this matter and for working alongside us to ensure high standards of behaviour are maintained at LPS.
Uniform
We take great pride in our school uniform and have an expectation that all students present to school in the correct uniform. If you are experiencing problems purchasing or obtaining uniform, please contact the office and we will provide support. Please note that jeans, black leggings and logo socks are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn to school.

Grade 6 Parents/Guardians
Transition to Kings Meadows High School will be a little different this year due to COVID-19. That said, we are fortunate that the majority of our communications have been digital for some time. We continue to modify how we communicate information to ensure that everyone, regardless of location, can engage in the transition program. We will include more virtual tours (like the one shared here), videos of teaching and learning in action and ‘Live’ events accessible across a number of digital platforms.
Please complete the intention to enrol at Kings Meadows High School Grade 7, 2021 form to ensure your details are recorded for future communications about the transition to High School. This form is also an opportunity for you to record the names of three friends you would like your child to have in their class. Please discuss with your child the names of their three friends before completing the form.

Science Inquiry – Earth, Moon and Sun
Students had to research information about the Earth, Moon and Sun by finding out about the size of each one, their movements in our Solar system and the distance between them. Then students created a model to show what they had learnt.
