Student Free Days Announced for Last Week of Term 1
As announced by the Premier this morning, the last week of Term 1 will now be student free as staff engage in four Professional Learning Days. This means, that the last day of learning for students for Term 1 will be Friday the 3rd of April. I will continue to update all families with updates via Facebook or letters home as we learn more.
Families on School Site – Update:
Firstly, I wish to thank you all for your continued support during this uncertain and challenging time. We greatly appreciate and value our parent community and your involvement with our school, however we are currently in a position to uphold our social responsibility in ensuring the health and safety of others. With this is mind, we are seeking your help to limit the number of people entering our school and classrooms at any time; in particular at drop off and pick up times.
Can we ask that for younger students being supported with their transition into the classroom, that you continue to do so, but depart as quickly as possible. If your child does not need to be supported with pick up/drop offs, please consider not coming onto school grounds at present. At the end of the school day, I would appreciate parents waiting until 2:45 before entering school grounds where possible. Please avoid entering classrooms and if you can arrange an alternative meeting point (ie the oval) that would be appreciated.
Once again, thank you for your continued support.
Important Reminder:
Last week we sent home some information around the measures we have been put in place to ensure our school remains safe for everyone. Here is a reminder of the information shared:
- If you child is unwell, has a temperature, cold like symptoms etc, please keep them home while they are unwell, as you normally would
- We have increased cleaning duties and employed additional cleaners to ensure all surfaces are regularly cleaned
- Canteen will not go ahead for the reminder of the term
- Breakfast Club will not operate as normal; instead a ‘Grab and Go’ breakfast will be available for those who need them
- We ask that students don’t bring toys/sports equipment to share from home for the remainder of term
- Home reading will be suspended for a short time; please continue to read with your child at home were possible
- All Library lessons be postponed
- We are asking that all of the fantastic programs run by volunteers in our schools cease for now. We ask that parent help stop for the remainder of the term. If parents/volunteers can avoid visiting the school (where appropriate), instead calling with questions, this would be appreciated
- The annual School Association AGM has been postponed until further notice
- Please don’t send food to be shared– eg birthday cakes for the immediate future
- Social distancing measures are being adhered to – including how we line up for exits/entries and Daily PE protocols
- Please ensure your child has their own drink bottle that we can refill with water as necessary
- School banking has been temporarily paused
Absences Update:
As always, can I please remind families to contact the school via the app or to phone if your child is staying home due to illness.
Self Isolation/Quarantine:
Some families have now made a decision to keep their child/ren home now for the remainder of term for health and safety reasons. If you have made the decision that your child/ren will not be returning this term, please notify the school office (via the app, in person, email or mail) in writing. If you require support with this process, please let us know.
At this stage, the latest information from the DoE is that schools continue to be a safe learning place for all learners and staff. If however, you have made the decision to self-isolate, or have been asked to quarantine, we understand that this is your choice and the decision has been made in the best interest of your child/ren. Can I remind families to keep their child/ren home if they are suffering from a cold, sniffles, coughs or have a temperature – this will help ensure learning spaces remain healthy and safe places for everyone. Please let the office know if your child will be absent for sickness or if you have made the decision to self-isolate.
Many of you have asked what it means for the learning of your child/ren if they are not attending school and I have been waiting for a clear direction around this. The DoE’s stance at present is to provide work/online recommendations to families for ‘Home Learning’ where practical. Our Leadership Team have worked on gathering a list of excellent websites/resources to provide you with practical ‘Home Learning’ support. The 'Home Learning' pack is available from the school office for those families that did not receive a pack given out at school today. For families that do not have internet/device access, we will provide a list of practical ideas to support your child with learning from home. Unfortunately we are unable to provide home-readers/library books at this time. We will include links to some great online reading resources to support you to continue reading with your child at home.
Again, thank you for your ongoing support and for staying connected with our messages via Facebook where possible.

National 'Ride2School' Day
Students, parents and teachers met on the corner of Archer and Wellington Street on a beautiful sunny morning to ride together to school. We had 35 students who rode to school on their bikes and scooters. We even had a student ride a skateboard! The National Ride2School was a great opportunity to get students active and talk about riding safely to school.
Thank you to the 25 students who entered our Brixhibition online edition. We are at the stage where classes are starting to look at the entries and choose their favourite. Any students not at school at the moment can send a message to the school Facebook messenger with their favourite number. Medallions will still be presented to the age winners and overall winner. Unfortunately Brixhibition at the Albert Hall is not going ahead but we are proud of our entries.
Easter Raffle
This is still going ahead and we are so excited to draw the raffle for each class. As you can see each class has a big basket and other eggs. If you are not at school you can still drop back your book with the $5 to the office. Raffle tickets are to be returned by Thursday 2nd April and will be drawn on Friday 3rd April.
Good Luck!
Please be informed that there will not be any Play and Learn and Kinder Connect sessions for the rest of this Term.
We arrived at school one Thursday morning to find that a visitor had camped in our quad. Students felt the warm billy and discussed who might have stayed the night. Amazing writing occurred from this experience.

"They live in the bottom of the deep blue sea where the sun can't reach the bottom"
"They have a light, the light helps them eat"
