Dear Longford Primary School Community
Welcome BBQ – This Thursday Evening!
We are thrilled to invite all our families to our Welcome BBQ this Thursday evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and mingle with our staff, catch up with other families, and enjoy some quality time with our school community. We value the importance of working together as partners in your child’s learning journey, and this event is a great way to kick off the school year with a sense of connection and fun. We hope to see you there!
Reading Challenge: A Great Start!
We are excited to announce that our Reading Challenge is off to a fantastic start! Thank you to all of our families for their support in encouraging students to engage with reading at home. The importance of reading cannot be overstated—it's a key to building literacy skills and fostering a love for learning. We truly appreciate your support in making this challenge a success, and we look forward to seeing all the wonderful progress our students will make.
NAPLAN & PAT Testing
As we move into March, we want to remind families that students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be undergoing NAPLAN testing starting on March 11. NAPLAN provides valuable data that helps us understand how we can best support your child’s learning and development. Additionally, students in Prep and Year 1 will be completing the PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests), which will also provide us with important insights into their progress. We use all of this data to ensure that we meet the individual learning needs of every student across our school.
Attendance – Every School Day Matters
Every school day matters because regular attendance is key to your child’s learning and academic success. Consistent attendance helps students stay on track with their studies, build strong relationships with peers and teachers, and develop essential skills. If you're facing any challenges in getting your children to school, please reach out—we are here to support you and ensure your child has every opportunity to succeed.
Congratulations to students for receiving a
Connection Certificate of Merit
Lego Competition - Brixhibition
Below are the details for our Brixhibition event.
If you would like to enter, grab an entry form from the office to bring in with your Lego creation on the morning of Thursday 6 March.
The entry form contains Frequently Asked Questions on the back, as well as competition guidelines.
Welcome to another year and our exciting STEM lessons. We have a lot to get through this year. This fortnight we have programmed bee-bots to complete routes and set paths (P-6), created weaved or platted bracelets (5-6), and coded a scratch sprite to respond to word instructions (3-6).

Our Brixhibition school competition is next week Thursday 6 March. Students from P-2 have been practicing the skills required for building imaginative design, with fine motor skills to push pieces together and pull pieces apart, using brick separators when necessary.

Our Prep-6 Athletics Carnival is being held on Tuesday 4th March at the Longford Recreation Ground and the Little Athletics area. Students will need to wear their PE clothing, ensure they have a hat and arrive with sunscreen on if possible. A coat in students bags may be handy in case of inclement weather. It is a good idea to pack extra food and drink on this day.
Early Childhood (Prep-2) Athletics will commence at 10:00am and return to school by Break 2.
Primary (3-6) Athletics will commence at 9:30am and conclude at 2:30pm. Primary students can wear a Latour (yellow) or Norfolk (green) coloured t-shirt if they choose.
If your child is unable to participate, please provide a note or explanation.
SPECTATORS ARE ASKED TO STAY OUTSIDE THE PERIMETER OF THE FOOTBALL GROUND OVAL AND THE LITTLE ATHLETICS GROUND.
PLEASE DO NOT ENTER EITHER OF THESE AREAS.

Welcome to the newsletter segment dedicated to all things garden.
This year’s summer harvest has been bountiful, and the secret is out! Students know where to look for food and have focused their foraging efforts on raspberries and grapes – understandable! They are yet to discover the blushing strawberries behind the compost bays though – a ready reward for faithful composters.
This morning, I assisted students to harvest pears, apples, greengages, and figs in the orchard. The students had never tasted a greengage and to see them experience this sweetness for the first time, was a delight. A big thank you to people like Miss Doran, Mrs Sutton (past principal), Longford Rotary and Mr Roberts (past groundsman) who were instrumental in establishing the orchard. We are so grateful to these visionaries who enabled the garden program to become what it is today.
Last night a transformation happened. The long garden table that had been buried under a layer of sap and grime for the two years was sanded back into glorious golden detail. Please plan your next family picnic here! Thanks to Aidan Fleming and Stewart Cawthen for this work.
We are delighted to have Megan Floris back to lead garden classes on Fridays!
