Dear Families
Welcome to Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4. It has certainly been a busy start with many learning opportunities happening across the school. These have included Swimming and Water Safety for our primary students, the Kinder zoo excursion, Reading Club and the 1/2 Longford History Walk. Students have made a settled and positive start to their learning and it has been lovely to reconnect with students over the past few weeks.
Growth Value Focus
As we enter the final term of the year, our school is focusing on the value of "Growth." This means we’ll be encouraging each student to embrace challenges, learn from their experiences, and celebrate their progress, both academically and personally. Throughout this term, teachers will be providing opportunities for students to reflect on their learning and achievements.
2025 Class Placements
Planning for 2025 classes is now underway. If you have any information that will help us with your child’s class placement for 2025 please contact the office by November 11th and make an appointment to speak with me.

Welcome back to Term 4 – we hope you had a great break!
School is the best place for our kids, it’s a chance to be around friends, learn new things, grow and have fun.
Sometimes the final stretch of the year can be challenging for regular school attendance. Here are some tips to make every day count:
- Create a routine.
- Allow enough time in the morning.
- Be on time, every day.
- Plan appointments and trips outside school hours.
- Get a good night’s sleep.
- Set some technology boundaries.
For more information, visit the Anything can happen website.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’re here to help.
Congratulations to students for receiving a
Growth Certificate of Merit
Wear Red Thursday for Kidney Health Australia
Staff at LPS have been fundraising for Kidney Health Australia by participating in the 'Red Socks Run', to support our school cleaner, Marg Allen. Students have also been walking/running laps of a morning for Daily Fitness. In addition, on Thursday we invite students to wear red, and bring a gold coin donation. Funds will go to Kidney Health Australia.

The Land of the Lost Things – Andy Griffiths latest book.
Ingenious Insects by Sarah Allen – Step through the seasons with some of Australia’s most interesting insects.

Our new group of Fowl Friends are keen to care for our school poultry this term.
Thank you Dylan, Madison, Charli, Charlie, Lylah and Elizabeth.
Octopus Craft
Last week, Prep students made their own Octopus creations. We followed instructions, having to roll each tentacle around a pencil to achieve a curled effect. Here are some of our creations.
NitroType
Lately in STEM, Grade 3/4s have been using NitroType, a website that encourages improve typing speed and accuracy. Touch typing is the ability to type using all your fingers, without looking at the keyboard. It enables people to produce and edit text at a much faster speed than usual. It also means that finished work has a greater level of accuracy… a desirable trait in potential employees!
NitroType allows students to practice on their own or ‘race’ against fellow schoolmates. Their ‘Words Per Minute’ (WPM) metric is displayed after each race, along with their accuracy percentage.
Although there is a paid option to the site, there is no expectation for any student to use the premium version. The learning aspects of the site works just the same with or without the premium option.
Anyone with a computer and internet connection can try a race to discover their WPM at https://www.nitrotype.com/race
Geometry Snowflake Competition
This week in STEM, 5/6s explored geometry and repeated patterns in shapes as part of a Mathematics focus. Each class held its own Paper Snowflake design competition, voted by students in each class. Congratulations to winners Jeremy, Harley and Maya. Here are photos of their designs.
Shark Art
This week, Prep and some Grade 1/2s created Surprise Shark fold-out art work. The art pieces open up to reveal the shark's teeth, and sometimes a tasty fish or two. Students needed to follow step-by-step instructions, and then were free to add their own creative touches.
Indy's Tiger's Eye
Earlier in Term 3, classes made their own 'Tiger's Eye' weaving creations. Indy from 5/6B enjoyed this so much she continued her exploration of this type of construction at home. Imagine our surprise when she brought in this enormous piece of art to share. Well done, Indy!
Prep to Year 4 received correspondence last week regarding free vision screening for children. If you would like your child to participate in this program, please return the completed permission slip by Thursday 24th October (tomorrow).
Swimming Carnival - Grades 3-6
Grades 3-6 Swimming Carnival is being held Thursday, 7th November, at Hagley Farm School pool. There are plenty of events for swimmers and non-swimmers, so we do expect all children to attend. Buses will leave school at 9am and we will return to school in the afternoon. Children will need bathers, towel, recess, lunch and a drink.
Spectators are welcome to attend. There will be a teacher, parent, student swimming race - if you would like to participate please contact the school office.
