Dear Families
As we wrap up Term 3, I am thrilled to celebrate the amazing progress our students have made. They have shown improvement in their reading skills, and it has been wonderful to see them actively participate in various extracurricular activities. Throughout the term, our school value of Connection has truly shone through, with students strengthening friendships and demonstrating respect towards one another. We are so proud of their efforts and enthusiasm, and we can’t wait to see what exciting opportunities await us in the final term.
I had the privilege of accompanying the choir, Taiko drummers and some of our student leaders to the opening of the Longford Memorial Hall last Wednesday. It was an absolute joy to see these students perform with such passion. The students did a fantastic job representing our school, displaying respectful behaviour during the event. Congratulations to these students and thank you to Ali Morgan and Mrs Berry who coordinated this opportunity for the students.
I would like to thank all our families for their ongoing support this term. Your attendance at our school events has contributed to their success, and I appreciate your involvement in our school community. I wish you a safe and enjoyable school holiday period and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 14th of October.

Have your say on the future of Tasmania’s education system
The Tasmanian Government has established an Independent Review of Tasmania’s education system to improve the education system over the next 10 years. And they want to hear from families, children and young people of all ages, and members of the community.
There are multiple ways you can get involved:
- Respond to the public Consultation Paper
- Complete the survey for educators, families and the community
- Complete the short survey for students
- Submit a creative response to the question (for children and young people only): Imagine yourself at the end of school, what have you learned, what have you achieved and who do you want to be?
Submissions responding to the Consultation Paper must be submitted by Sunday 13 October 2024, and all other consultation opportunities will close on Sunday 27 October 2024.
Visit the Independent Education Review website to learn more or email contact@ier.tas.gov.au.
Last Wednesday our Prep students had a great day out on their excursion to Hagley Farm School.
New books in our school library to borrow next term.
The Wild Robot is based on the animated science fiction survival film, which is on at the Cinemas now. This is about a robot named Roz, shipwrecked on a deserted island and he builds relationships with the native animals.
The latest Bad Guys book is ‘The Serpent and the Beast’ Episode 19. This is a very popular series with our students and we have all copies of Episode 1 – 19.
Prep Modelling Clay
Last week in STEM, Prep students created modelling clay figures. Here are some of their creations.
Giacometti Figures
Over the last fortnight, students in 5/6B have been creating Giacometti artwork figures. Alberto Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor and painter, who lived from 1901 to 1966, living mainly in Paris. Some of his most famous work were his tall and impossibly slender figurines. Similar art work was created in the classroom using pipe-cleaners and wrapped tin foil, which were attached with clay feet and wire to presentation boxes.
3D Printing
5/6s have the option to design another 3D print until the end of the year. Axle recently designed this Star Wars Boba Fett helmet. We look forward to seeing what other designs students come up with using Tinkercad 3d Modelling software.
Overlap Watercolour
This week, 3/4s engaged in Watercolour art, revisiting the technique of blending colours. We applied the special watercolour pencil first, then gently brushed a small amount of water over similar colours to blend.
Wear your team colours this Friday, 27th September, and bring a gold coin donation. Our Student Leadership Team have chosen to purchase some plants to beautify the front of our school. Donations will contribute to this.
