Dear Families
Book Week
What an incredible Book Week we had last week! The highlight of our celebrations was the magnificent Book Parade, where students dazzled us with their costumes, bringing their favourite book characters to life. From heroic adventurers to whimsical creatures, the parade was a colourful and joyful display of creativity and enthusiasm. Our Book Bingo was a hit as well, with students eagerly working with their Buddy class to hunt for clues around the staff’s favourite books. The week culminated in a Readers’ Picnic, where students, parents, and teachers gathered to enjoy stories and share their love of reading over lunch.
At our school, reading is a priority and Book Week showcased our commitment to fostering a lifelong love of books. It's wonderful to see our students so engaged and excited about reading. A big thank you to everyone who participated and staff for their organisation in a very successful Book Week.
Attendance
Regular school attendance is crucial for your child's academic success and overall development, as it ensures they don't miss out on important lessons and social interactions. However, it's equally important to remember that when children are unwell with cold and flu symptoms, staying home to rest and recover is the best choice for their health and for preventing the spread of illness to others. Keeping your child home when they are sick helps them get better faster and ensures a healthier environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to both your child's well being and our school community.
Dad’s Night
This Thursday we look forward to hosting our annual school community event 'Dad’s Night'. There will be activities in the classroom followed by a free BBQ. We look forward to seeing families on Thursday from 4:30pm.
School Satisfaction Survey
The School Satisfaction Survey opens this week. This is an opportunity for families to provide feedback on the school. You will find more information with a link to the survey further down in the newsletter.

Families Satisfaction Survey 2024
The 2024 School Satisfaction Surveys are coming!
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Longford Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 26 August 2024 until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/dIozpylXyC
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact your school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
We are excited to once again host our Dad's Night evening with our Dads/Grandads/Uncles and significant others on Thursday 29th August. Dad's Night is a valued tradition at Longford Primary School, it allows us to share some of our learning and class activities with you all.
Dad’s Night is open to all families of our learning community from LiL – Grade 6. The event is from 4:30-6:00pm and will include opportunities for families to engage in some fun challenges and games together.
On the night we will have a free Sausage Sizzle. Soft drink will be available for $2 and water for free. Thank you to our School Association for organising the Sausage Sizzle. Volunteers are needed for cooking and serving, please leave your name with the school office if you are able to help.
Our School Association have been donated a voucher for two nights accommodation at Mount View Accommodation, Marrawah. This will be first prize of our Fathers Day Raffle and a Dad's Hamper for the second prize. Thank you to Mount View Accommodation for their generous donation in support of our School Association fundraising.
Please return your raffle tickets to the school office by 3:00pm Thursday.

Marble Runs
Last week, 5/6s completed and trialled their Marble Run creations. The objective was to make a run that would have a marble complete the contraption within a minute and take as long as possible. Milla, Natahli and Kobey's group from Mr Laskey's class managed to be the slowest with a time of 54.74 seconds. The group achieved this by smothering some of their cardboard runs in glue to slow the marble down even further. Other groups made great use of the materials available to continually improve their runs, and Hamish made a fantastic Plinko/Disk Drop style game version for his creation.
Crok Academy
Grok, an online learning website, is free for all Australian students for 2024. Last week, 3/4s got to grips with how to move through the online courses with block programming basics. Students learnt how to create cartoon monsters with different designs using the available options and coding structures. About | Grok Academy (groklearning.com)
