Dear Families
We are now halfway through the term. Students have been diving in with some fun and interesting learning opportunities including woodwork by ToolSkool, building marble runs in Stem, Art, Music, chess playing and Taiko drumming. We are really proud of the way students are engaging in their learning so far this term.
Reporting and Learning Conversations
Over the past few weeks, teachers have been collecting student learning evidence in preparation for mid-year reports. Many students have made positive gains in their learning over the year, which is fantastic. Over the next few weeks, you will receive more information about reporting and learning conversations. The link to book your conversation appointment is further in the newsletter. We look forward to sharing about student learning during this time.
Respect
As part of our Respect focus we have implemented some student respect awards. These awards are chosen and presented by our student leaders. During break times student leaders have set up some activities to do during break times. During this time they look out for students demonstrating respect. This was an initiative that student leaders developed themselves, to support our positive school culture.
Winter Celebration
This Thursday Longford Primary School will host our annual Winter Celebration Event. Students and staff have been working hard to prepare for this event. There will be lots of fun activities, food and a musical performance by our choir. You can find the details about the event further down in the newsletter. We hope to see you there on Thursday.

Congratulations to students for receiving a Respect Certificate of Merit
Grade 5/6 are busy preparing their soup for our Winter Celebration. Thank you to Woolworths Prospect, Browns IGA and Young's Veggie Shed for their generous donations of vegetables. A reminder to bring some coins if you would like to purchase soup or soft drink tomorrow evening.
The sausage sizzle is free. Thank you to our School Association, Longford Fire Brigade, JJ's Bakery and Banjo's Bakery for their support.
Learning conversations (Grades Prep-6) will occur Tuesday 18th June 3:00-4:30pm, Tuesday 25th June 3:00-4:30pm and Thursday 27th June 3:00-7:00pm. We encourage students to attend 3-way conversations with their parent/guardian and teacher. Members of the leadership team and specialist teachers are also available for conversations via appointment during this time. All conversations will be held in the General Purpose Room.
Conversations can be booked via this website: https://longfordps.schoolzineplus.com/view-session/8
This site will be accessible from 5th-17th June. If you require any support in making an appointment, please contact the office.
In preparation for these conversations, we ask families to consider speaking with their child about learning goals to help guide the conversation.
Name: Elson Hyatt
Grade: 4
Class: 3/4 Ross
What is your favourite thing about literacy?
I like learning new words and learning about the things in books. I like to read Joke Books, books about football and sometimes books about animals. I also really like stories, especially when they are funny. I like it when Miss Ross gives us a picture then we can write about it. I liked the one about the dragon. I wrote that the dragon was a water dragon and it came out for prey.
Tell us about working with Mrs Brady on your reading...
We read to Mrs Brady then we do some writing. My reading is getting better because I am practising. I like to read books in our reading time. When I get stuck on a word, Mrs Brady helps me figure it out. She reads it for us or we sound out the letters together.
Name: Charlie Claxton
Grade: 4
Class: 3/4 Smith/Nobes
What is your favourite thing about literacy?
My favourite thing is writing books and comics. I write about lots of different things like space, battles, superhumans with super powers and imaginary worlds often set in the future. When I read I like comics, picture books and imaginary creatures.
Tell us about this piece of work…
I have created a series of comics. The first series is “Into the Cosmos”. The reason I started to write comics was because of the Pokemon Journeys episode #11. About halfway in the episode, one of the characters mentioned writing comics in elementary school and I thought I could do that, I was really interested. I felt really proud when I finished the series. In my series there is Jerald and his Dad. Jerald loves to go to space and he goes on 6 adventures through the series with one adventure every comic. My favourite adventure is Comic 2, because Jerald has a battle between him and many other aliens and he ends up winning and saving the world.
Paper Planes
Grade 5-6s were challenged to design an aerodynamic paper aeroplane. One interesting design was a circular paper construction, thrown like a football. Congratulations to Lilly, Caleb and Rhys on achieving the furthest distance throw with their plane designs.
Hex Bug Tracks
Grade 1-2s finished their Hex-Bug track/obstacle creations last week. Here are some photos of some of the designs.
Prep Art/Craft
Prep students were tasked with creating a spectacular bird from various craft materials. Brightly coloured paper and freedom to design a bird of their choice resulted in a range of stunning birds.
Marble Runs
We are having visitors to our school to provide our students with fun extra activities to learn new skills.
